That differs from the information provided by the county’s medical examiner, which said in its most recent update that six people had been killed in that fire. In total, at least 11 people are known to have been killed between the Eaton and Palisades fires.
Nineteen people have been arrested in the area of the Eaton fire, near Altadena and Pasadena in Los Angeles County, officials said. Four of those were for alleged curfew violations on Friday night. A curfew is in effect from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. for areas that were ordered to evacuate.
Dry and windy conditions are expected to continue, said Chief Anthony C. Marrone of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Moderate-to-strong Santa Ana winds were expected to affect the county on Friday and Saturday, and again from Monday through Wednesday, he said. “These winds, combined with low humidities and low fuel moistures, will keep the fire threat in Los Angeles County high,” he said.
Chief Marrone said that 2,832 firefighting personnel are currently assigned to the Eaton fire. More than 7,000 structures have been damaged or destroyed thus far, he said.
